Moving to net-zero

  • The world is moving relentlessly towards embedding environmental and social costs of greenhouse gas emissions into business and investment decisions.
  • As economic activities align with climate goals, world leaders are joining the green race in a bid to reduce greenhouse gas emission.
  • Over 60 countries have pledged to achieve net zero emissions, while implementing key initiatives such as the carbon pricing schemes.
  • China’s much-anticipated nationwide emissions trading system (ETS) will be the most significant new initiative this year since the introduction of the European Union’s ETS in 2005.
  • Global efforts to drive climate changes and sustainability developments will continue to make an impact on the economy in years to come.
  • Businesses that anticipate and adapt successfully to these changes stand to benefit from the reshaped economic landscape.
  • New opportunities will continue to emerge for companies and investors, especially in carbon capture and storage, renewable energy, as well as companies with indirect exposure to the decarbonisation movement.

Why we like the fund

  • The fund follows an asset allocation policy that seeks to maximise total return in a manner consistent with the principles of ESG focussed investing.
  • Within this framework, the fund aims to reduce risk through the exclusion of 9 controversial sectors and violators of the UN Global Compact, a non-binding pact aimed at adopting sustainable and socially responsible policies.
  • The fund seeks to boost portfolio resilience by investing only in firms with an ESG rating of BBB and above as well as focus on thematic investment opportunities that drive positive societal change.
  • The fund invests globally in the full spectrum of permitted investments, including equities, fixed income and money market instruments.
  • The fund also strives to pay a potential distribution of 3 - 3.5% per annum on a monthly basis, though this is not guaranteed and only applicable for the distribution share classes.
